The Joint Loan Board Programme
The Nyeri County government, through the Joint Loan Board Programme provides small loans (USD 500 to USD 3,000) to existing traders through the joint loan board programme. The programme also comes with training on basic book-keeping to help grow small businesses into enterprises. Through this programme, traders can access up to USD 3,000 at 8% PA on reducing balance for a maximum period of two years.

The Youth Enterprise Development Fund

This fund was established to reduce unemployment among the youth aged 18 to 35 years by strategically focusing on enterprise development as a key strategy tool that will increase economic opportunities for, and participation by Kenyan youth in nation building.

The Cooperative Movement

The Cooperative Movement is instrumental in mobilization of resources for development in the coffee, dairy, housing and transport sectors of the county economy. These societies have also enabled the farmers to improve on their production of different commodities thus increasing their turnover currently estimated at Kshs. 4.9 billion in the year 2012. The societies have the potential for value addition through vertical integration, enhancing quality and productivity, market development, trade financing, promotion to local and regional markets, establishment of horticulture and aquiculture cooperatives.

Credit Scoring in Kenya Credit Reference Bureaus complement the central role played by banks and other financial institutions by collecting, managing and disseminating customer information to lenders within a provided regulatory framework. There are National Consumer Protection and Bankruptcy laws that protect the legal rights of the borrower and promote commerce and economic growth.
